Moldmakers in Derby, Connecticut, since 2002

We design it, build it, and sample it, so your tool runs right on day one.

Empire Tool engineers injection molds in Cimatron and SolidWorks, builds them in our Derby shop, and proves them out on our own presses before they ship. One local team is accountable from your part file to approved samples.

From part file to approved samples

The people who review your part are the people who design the mold, cut the steel, and run the first shots. Nothing gets lost between vendors.

  1. Send your part file

A STEP file is all we need. Your native CAD stays with you.

  2. DFM review

We flag draft, wall thickness, undercuts, and gate location before we quote.

  3. Design and build

Designed in Cimatron, then machined and EDM'd in our Derby shop.

  4. Sample and approve

First shots on our own presses, so you approve real parts, not a drawing.

After approval, the tool ships to your molder. If you need parts before production starts, we can run bridge and low-volume quantities here.

What we do

A multi-plate injection mold assembly designed in Cimatron

Mold design and engineering

Design for manufacturability (DFM) review and full mold design before any steel is cut. Gating, cooling, ejection, and steel selection get decided on screen, where changes are cheap.

  • DFM review of your part geometry
  • Mold design in Cimatron and SolidWorks
  • Resin and mold steel recommendations

Moldmaking, machining, and mold repair

Prototype and production injection molds built in Derby, plus repairs and engineering changes on molds already in production.

  • Prototype and production injection molds
  • Mold repair, modification, and maintenance
  • CNC machining and wire and sinker EDM

Mold sampling and low-volume molding

Every tool we build can be sampled on our own presses before it ships. When you need parts before production is set up, we can run bridge and low-volume quantities.

  • T1 sampling and mold trials
  • Bridge and low-volume runs
  • Commodity and engineering resins

Engineered before we cut steel, so the tool lasts

Most tooling problems are designed in. A part that sticks, warps, or shows a gate mark on a cosmetic face usually traces back to a decision made before the mold was built. We review your part and design the mold with manufacturability and tool life in mind from the first conversation.

  • Parting line and draftSet early, they can remove a slide or lifter from the tool entirely.
  • Gate locationChosen for how the part fills and where marks can land, not just what's easiest to cut.
  • Cooling layoutDesigned for cycle time and even shrink, so parts stay in spec shot after shot.

Parts we've molded, as seen on Shark Tank

We've built tooling for several products that went from a pitch on Shark Tank to store shelves. A launch like that leaves no room for a mold that needs three rounds of rework. It needs a part reviewed for manufacturability, a tool built right the first time, and samples in hand fast.

If you're an inventor or a startup with a design that's ready for real parts, we'll tell you what it takes to mold it, what will drive the tooling cost, and how to get to approved samples.

Local enough to visit, and to fix things fast

We're in Derby, Connecticut, within driving distance of OEMs and molders across New England, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. You can come in for a design review or a mold trial. When a change is needed, it doesn't wait on overseas freight or a time difference.

“As the Tooling/Applications Engineer for an injection molder, we source our molds globally. I've found Empire to be very cost-effective and resourceful for many of our mid-volume applications and will continue to use them for my moldmaking and production needs here on the East Coast. We are able to save weeks on delivery based on their proximity and willingness to adjust tool designs to achieve our cost objectives.”
